Armadillidium maculatum

These are astrikingly patterned isopods known for their bold black-and-white stripes and compact, pillbug-like shape. Unlike more active species, they are relatively slow and shy, often spending much of their time burrowed or under cover. They prefer moderate to high humidity with access to both moist and dry microclimates, and are less tolerant of overly wet environments. Zebra isopods are moderate breeders and slower to reproduce than species like P. laevis or P. pruinosus, but they form stable colonies once established. Their ability to roll into a tight ball offers protection, making them more resilient to disturbance. They benefit from calcium-rich diets and decaying hardwoods and are best maintained in well-aerated substrates to prevent stagnation. Highly sought after for their unique appearance, Zebra isopods are considered one of the most beautiful and beloved species in the isopod hobby.

Each culture has approximately 12-15 mixed size isopods included, with food, and are considered a medium sized isopod.
